My Maps

In 2018, we wrote a story with an interactive map rating the state senate races, categorizing them like some of the Congressional rating groups (Cook Political and Larry Sabato’s Crystal Ball). We used some quantitative data but mostly qualitative data to make the ratings.

This is one of my favorite maps. It was for a story on proposed new casinos in New York. It showed the regional markets (defined by casino experts) for the existing casinos in New York state and how they would overlap with proposed new casinos. When CitBike announced that they were offering discounted memberships to SNAP (food stamp) recipients, Amanda Eisenberg and I looked at whether Citi Bike was available in neighborhoods with a lot of SNAP recipients.

Here’s a map for a story [$] I did with Amanda that showed limited access to Buprenorphine in parts of New York state because there were few doctors that can proscribe it there.

This was part of a story (with Dan Goldberg I think) looking at where medical marijuana manufacturers and dispensaries would be located in New York state.
